How does Solar power work?
From sunlight to electricity
A solar cell is built up of 2 layers, with an electric field between them. When light shines on the cell it influences the electrical field across the layers causing electricity to flow. The more intense the light, the greater the flow of electricity.
From DC to AC electricity.
The inverter converts Direct Current (DC) into Alternating Current (AC).
Power to your lights and appliances
The inverter converts the electricity from the solar panels (DC) into power (AC) that can be used by electrical loads inside your building ( TV, computer, etc).
In most cases solar electricity is not stored in a battery. It is used by the loads in the building or flows back to the grid when there are no loads. When there is not enough solar electricity, your building simply takes electricity from the grid.
